When I was in college, many moons ago, we studied a bit of marketing and one of the topics was the 'marketing mix' or '4 P's - Product, Price, Place and Promotion'. Even back then I thought to myself that there should have been a fifth, as in 'People' and now we have seven - 'Process' and 'Physical Evidence' have also been added to the list.
So what has this got to do with your business English? Well, quite a lot really. If you are working in international markets and you need to communicate in English, then your marketing plan can help you find your strengths and weaknesses as far as your English is concerned. You need to be able to talk about your products or services, the prices, the distribution methods (place) and you need to be able to promote your business in English.
When we talk about people we can think about those that work in the business (maybe you need to be able to describe the skills and talents of the team) but we also need to think about the clients - who are they? Client profiling is an important part of sales and marketing so being able to talk to your clients about their businesses - in English - could be an essential part of your selling process.
You will need to be able to describe the processes involved in your services and the physical elements of those services.
So here is a question for you: If you improved your communication skills in English, would that help you to improve your personal performance and therefore sales ?
If the answer is 'yes' then we should talk.
